Before I go any further, Peanuts fans should rejoice!
Just two days after I posted my complaint about the lack of Peanuts holiday TV specials airing on broadcast TV this season, it's been announced that Apple has made an agreement with PBS to air A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas! The Thanksgiving special will air this Sunday November 22nd at 7:30pm, and the Christmas special will air Sunday December 13th at 7:30pm. This will be the first year that Peanuts specials have ever aired on PBS. Thank you Apple and thank you PBS!
Enjoy!
So glad Apple found a heart I mean does anybody subscribe to Apple TV?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was just to save face, but I'll take it! And PBS is a good place for them to be.
ReplyDeleteI watched ACBT last night, and must thank you for the heads up. I did not see this information anywhere else, and would have missed it (and "...Christmas" next month) otherwise.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a treat to see a Peanuts special without intrusive edits, and presented in the proper screen ratio. Been a l-o-n-n-n-n-n-g time since that's happened.
I realize this is just a temporary arrangement, but PBS really would be a ideal permanent home for the specials. I would even - for the first time ever - consider tossing them a few bucks come telethon time.
Also notable, American Public Television (the largest syndicator to public tv stations in the US...and most of the independent public stations have shut down in these parlous times, so mostly PBS stations) is offering THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW to stations. Much more fun than LAWRENCE WELK, and not chopped up as on commercial broadcast.
ReplyDeleteThanks Top Cat! Glad i was able to let you know about the specials.
ReplyDeleteThanks Todd! Complaints about the Carol Burnett syndicated reruns have been around for years. Good to know the show can now be seen in all its glory!
WHYY is running BURNETT on Sundays, when not pledging.
ReplyDeleteThe episode I watched through on WHYY was the 13 December 1975 installment with the Pointer Sisters, which was followed in my Northeastern Connecticut market by MONTY PYTHON on WGHY in Springfield MA (no way to dig out the episode easily enough without a Newspapers subscription), then the SATURDAY NIGHT on NBC hosted by Richard Pryor and with musical guest Gil Scott-Heron, whom if anything I liked even better than the host, even though (as often, it seemed, when SNL didn't like the musical guesttt they were featuring), the technical aspects were Not Great, Before Burnett, CBS had run THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW at 9pm, "One Boyfriend Too Many", and THE BOB NEWHART SHOW "The Article" at 9:30.. Those were my appointment television on Saturdays for a couple of seasons.
ReplyDeleteJust to beat this to death, it wasn't the Pointer Sisters episode that was on 13 Dec 75, though that was the first of two I caught on WHYY in recent weeks, but the Jessica Walter episode. She also sang.
ReplyDeleteIt did take me back, obviously. CBS ran rather disposable sitcoms from 8-9p on Saturdays, to conform to Family Hour self-imposed regulations. Where only a couple of season before ALL IN THE FAMILY and M*A*S*H were doing some of their best work.
