Charles Schulz's Non-Peanuts Work

One of my favorite blogs to read is I'm Learning to Share by blogger The In-Crowd. There you will find lengthy articles on all sorts of pop culture chock-full of information, pictures, audio, and video. Today I stumbled upon two articles there about a subject I thought I knew a great deal about--Peanuts creator Charles Schulz.

But no! At that blog I learned about two non-Peanuts projects Schulz authored that I had no idea existed. One is a book called Two-By-Fours, and another a comic strip called Young Pillars.

I strongly encourage you to check out these articles here and here. Great stuff!

The Weirdest Thing You'll See All Day

You may have seen it before--it's making the Internet rounds--but damn it, if it isn't what the Internet was made for. Thanks to blogger Bill Doughty and radio station WMMR-FM in Philadelphia for bringing this to my attention the last week.

Peanuts as Pitchmen: Some Foreign Thing

Hey, remember me? My name is Phillyradiogeek, and I post on this blog sometimes. You may have forgotten as blogging has been sporadic this month, for which I apologize. Free time has been sparse lately, plus I've been suffering writer's block, to be honest.

I have however come across an item to file under my "Peanuts as Pitchmen" banner. The problem, is, I have no idea what the product is in this Asian commercial. All I know is it's something called "Hot Pepper." If anyone has any idea what this product is, please let me know in the comments section.

The commercial is cute enough though, with various members of the gang rocking in the back-up band to the vocalist. Enjoy!

Peanuts Gang Bringin' Down the House!

With Peanuts celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, it's a great excuse to party. Get down with the gang right now! They move pretty good for 60-year-old children.

Happy Valentine's Day 2010! Donald Duck, "Donald's Valentine Dollar"

Better late than never, Happy Valentine's Day! Sorry I'm posting this just a couple of hours before the holiday is over, but as I've said previously, it's been crazy in Casa de Geek lately. If you're still in the Valentine mood, here is Donald Duck in "Donald's Valentine Dollar." Enjoy!

I'm Now on Google Buzz

If you're a regular Gmail user, you've noticed that Google has launched Google Buzz. This is their latest attempt to integrate a social networking feature into their other Google account services. If you are a Google Buzz user, you can follow me there under my real name of Brian Arnold.

So far it seems a bit confusing, but perhaps being new I may be misunderstanding it. If you choose to follow me there, I hope to hear from you soon!

State of the Blog 2010

Hello everyone! I hope everyone was able to avoid problems both snow and mudslide related this weekend.

What do I have to blog today? Honestly, not much. Things are a bit hectic lately, between shoveling snow and surgery for my mother-in-law tomorrow (wish her luck!). I'm afraid I haven't had much time to post something awesomely mind-blowing. I have some things in mind, but they take a bit of research and video searching, so they'll have to wait awhile.

I would like to ask you directly aboutwhat you think of this blog. Any and all feedback you can give me will help make this place a better, more entertaining blog. If there anything you want me to talk more about? Less? What about the blog layout or design? What changes would you like to see?

Please let me know by either leaving a comment on this post or emailing me directly at phillyradiogeek@gmail.com. Please also follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/phillyradiogeek.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned!

Heathcliff, "Blizzard Bandit"

Much of the east coast is being hit with a blizzard. If you're one of those preparing to be hit, as I am, enjoy this installment of the mid-80s syndicated Heathcliff animated series. Here, the famous comic strip cat also deals with snowy conditions. Thanks!

ABC Primetime Promos and Commercials, 1977

I've professed my love for the 80s many times before, but I should also say how much I love the 70s as well. The decade is much maligned, and often for good reason, but I still love the styles, music, and yes, TV. Here is a set of 70s-era commercials and promos from ABC in what I consider the quintessential 70s year, 1977. Heck, ABC can be considered the quintessential 70s TV network. That was the decade they really caught fire and proved themselves a force to be reckoned with alongside CBS and NBC. Enjoy!

For a ton of great 70s-ness, you must check out the Retrospace blog. There is amazing stuff there!

The Incredible Hulk, "Enter: She-Hulk"

As this month marks the 30th anniversary of the Marvel Comics character She-Hulk, Marvel has declared this week "She-Hulk Week." In honor of that, here is her first appearance outside of comic books, as a guest star on the early 80s animated series The Incredible Hulk. Here is the only episode of that series in which she appeared, "Enter: She-Hulk." Enjoy!

Casper, "Weather or Not"

Today is Groundhog Day, so in honor of his Groundhogness (you didn't know he had a title, did you), here is a cute cartoon starring Casper and the groundhog, called "Weather or Not." Enjoy!

Peanuts as Pitchmen: Variety Pack

In my continuing series celebrating the 60th anniversay of Peanuts, I present another installment of "Peanuts as Pitchmen," in which the gang shills various products (as they've done for many companies throughout the years). Today is comprised of single commercials for various products rather than one product throughout the article.

We've got Milkbone:

Peanut butter (In Australia, no less):

Cheerios (with some nice 80s flair):

And even some funky French beverage:

Lastly, this is an interesting public service announcement raising funds for the Statue of Liberty restoration project, which led to the big unveiling and celebration of 1986.

Thanks!
