TV-Inspired Incredible Hulk Story Album by Power Records

Hey, I'm back! I don't know for how long, but I've finally managed to get a few minutes to blog. What I'm sharing today is something I didn't know existed until a month or so ago.

I'm sure you're familiar with Power Records, the action story division of children's music company Peter Pan Records, that released a lot of fun items in the 70s and 80s. I recently came across a story album on YouTube featuring the Incredible Hulk. This wasn't surprising to me, as Power released a number of story albums featuring superheroes from DC and Marvel Comics.

What did surprise me, however, is that one of these albums was based NOT on the Marvel Comics iteration of the character, but on the TV series version. In this series of four stories, David (not Bruce) Banner wanders the country and runs afoul of human villains rather than supervillains, just like he did in the TV series. This was a treat to listen to, as the stories are quite faithful to the TV series format. You won't hear the Hulk say "HULK SMASH!" in this version, but you will hear a sincere but amusing attempt by the voice actor to give a frightning roar as the green-skinned giant.

Enjoy!

The Incredible Hulk, "Homecoming," Thanksgiving Episode

Hello again! With Thanksgiving week upon us, I thought it appropriate to post a couple of holiday items before the big day. Here is one of two of them: a Thanksgiving episode of--The Incredible Hulk?

You betcha! In this episode, entitled "Homecoming," David Banner returns to his childhood home to reunite with his estranged family: his sister, also a scientist like David, and his father, a farmer. Previously hurt feelings arise among them, but they must work together against a greedy land developer who wants to take away the family's farmland. Throw the Hulk into the mix, and you have a recipe for action!

Enjoy! A word of warning though: this Dailymotion upload plays in a reverse image of the actual episode, which doesn't matter much for the action, but any and all onscreen text will appear backwards. Please don't let it ruin your enjoyment of the episode.

Thanks!

The Incredible Hulk, "The Boy Who Saw Tomorrow" (1982)

Happy August 2nd!

What's so special about this date? Nothing, really. But every year when it rolls around, I always think of this particular episode of the 1982 Incredible Hulk animated series.

In the following episode, "The Boy Who Saw Tomorrow," Betty Ross's nephew Jonah has a psychic vision of the future in which Betty perishes on a space shuttle mission with the Hulk in tow. The mission takes place on, you guessed it, August 2nd, and the story places emphasis on this particular date.

Now, by sharing this episode with you, you too can think of this episode every August 2nd.

Actually, you probably won't. I only think of it because I'm really, really weird.

Enjoy anyway!

Random Images of Awesomeness Part 3

It's been a really long time since I've done a Random Images of Awesomeness post (over two years in fact), and since I've amassed quite a collection of rad images since then, it's high time I displayed some accordingly. Without further comment, here are some pleasing images for the eyes. Artist credits are given when known. Enjoy!

The Incredible Hulk TV Series Outtakes

I've always loved the Incredible Hulk TV series, but one thing I've never seen before are bloopers and outtakes--until recently. And not only are they amusing, they're surprisingly profane, at least considering the source--the star himself, Bill Bixby. Bixby has always seemed reserved and button-down in interviews, but this reel shows a completely different side.

Enjoy!

List O' Links for Friday, July 19th, 2013

It feels like it's been awhile since I've posted some links, so it's high time I get back to that. Cool off from the ridiculous heat with these fun links!

I won't go into my love for the movie Jaws yet again, but if you want to experience the film in a flash, enjoy Jaws in 3 animated GIFs. These pretty much sum it up!

While we're on the subject of sharks, here are 10 close shark encounters. Too close!

It may be too early to think about Halloween just yet, but in the spirit of Free Comic Book Day, the comics industry is having its second annual Halloween ComicFest October 26th and 27th. Get the details here!

I won't go into my love for the Incredible Hulk TV series yet again (sound familiar?), but this blogger does a great job of explaining his.

Your mileage may vary, but here is a list of the 10 Greatest Syndicated Comic Strips in American History. I think you know what I believe should be #1, but this isn't a bad list.

Finally, with all the crazy weather we seem to be having all the time, it might be a good idea to invest in a good weather radio to stay on top of the latest conditions, especially in times of severe weather. The Surfing Pizza recommends just such a model.

Have a great weekend!

List O' Links for Friday, March 8, 2013

"It's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't go sh*t to do!" So why not spend it with these links?

Ten things you never knew about Barbie.

More cool behind-the-scenes material from the 70s Hulk TV show, courtesy of Al Bigby.

Here are some excellent covers from Detective Comics before the creation of Batman, to remind everyone that the title was really about detective comics.

Salon asks the question "What happened to Orson Scott Card?"

Finally, an article that made the comic book rounds like wildfire this week: legendary artist and writer Jerry Ordway laments his lack of attention from DC Comics and states his desire to be a major force in comics again. I hope someone gives him the opportunity.

Have a great weekend!

Random Images of Awesomeness Part II

I come across a lot of cool images in my Internet travels, so as I've done once before, here is an entire post showcasing them. I won't comment on most of them, except where some explanation may be in order. Enjoy!

Cosplay of the character Flame Princess from Adventure Time.

Baby Princess Leia. Awwww.

Thanks!

List O' Links for Friday, January 25th, 2013

TGIF, as they say! Once again I have some fun stuff to peruse on the 'Net, so fire away when ready!

If you're in the mood to relax this Friday morning, enjoy the sounds of grocery store music from 1975!

If the NRA had their way, there would be no need for Batman. See for yourself!

One of my favorite comic book artists these days is Skottie Young. Check out his awesome take on Disney superhero Darkwing Duck!

If you're looking for a music act for your next social event, and you live in the 1980s, you may want to avoid these unique acts!

Finally, here's what Hulk fans such as myself have been looking for--a comprehensive list of all the causes of David Banner's Hulk-outs from the TV series.

Have a fantastic weekend!

List O' Links for Friday, January 18, 2013

It's not just any Friday, but the Friday before a nice three-day weekend! If you have Monday off (or even if you don't), enjoy it. Until then, here are a few fun links to while away the time.

Remember that time Mr. Rogers visited the set of the Incredible Hulk TV show? I did in a previous post back in 2008, but Christopher Mills takes a recent look at the hallowed event this week.

Longtime readers know that I'm one of the biggest lovers of McDonald's food you'll find, but even I don't touch the McRib sandwich. Here are several good reasons why.

My kids are starting to explore the Star Wars universe in earnest for the first time this year, and in introducing them to it, I've had a renewed interest as well. Here's a useful list if you want to get into the Star Wars universe as presented in the many books written about it.

What is this, some kind of ancient archaeological discovery? Nope--it's my family's first ever VCR from 1981!

Finally, a sober link, but one that is worth reading in keeping with the theme of the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Have a great weekend!

Everyday Hulk: In The Bathroom

It doesn't take a crisis-level threat like Loki to make the Hulk angry--just watch him run out of toilet paper!

This is a great animation by David Stodolny. Watch his other stuff at artofstodoe.blogspot.com. Thanks!

List O' Links for Friday 6/15/12

I haven't posted a List O' Links in awhile, so let me rectify that problem now. Surf away!

I posted my own tribute to the Incredible Hulk in honor of his 50th anniversary previously, but the LA Times Hero Complex created their own fine tribute as well

Speaking of tributes, Histories of Things to Come has a touching one in honor of late astronomer Jack Horkeimer.

For fans of both old time radio or science fiction, here is a collection of episodes of the great 50s sci-fi radio program X Minus One.

His name is Shawn Robare, and he's a mechanical pencil addict. "Hi Shawn!"

A vending machine that prints and sells a book on the spot? Why not!

Lastly, Laurel and Hardy made fantastically funny films, yet they sometimes ended on a bizarre note. Tom Ruegger of Cartoonatics shows just how bizarre.

Have a great weekend!

Random Images of Awesomeness

I had such high hopes for blogging this week, but once again, life got in the way, so today I'm just going to post various images I've collected off of the 'Net that I think are cool, funny, or just eye-catching.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I hope so. Enjoy!

Happy 50th Birthday Hulk!

Today is the 50th anniversary of the release of Incredible Hulk #1, the very first appearance of the Jade Giant (even though he was gray in the issue). As a huge Hulk fan, I can't let the occasion go by without acknowledgment. Here, without further comment, are little tidbits in tribute to him.

HULK SMASH! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! Marvel Action Universe: The Return of Captain America

I doubt this will be a surprise to you, but the long-awaited Avengers movie opens today, and to celebrate I present a much older uniting of Earth's Mightiest Heroes to hit the screen--the small screen, anyway.

Here is a presentation of Captain America's union with the Avengers as depicted by the Marvel Action Pack of cartoons that aired on ABC TV in the 1960s. The animation is notoriously limited, but it's fun nonetheless.

As a bonus, I also present the introduction of Hawkeye into the series as well as a Hulk feature. Enjoy! Go see the movie!

All the Hidden Endings to Marvel Comics Avengers Prequels in One Convenient Place

I've now seen all the Marvel Studios-produced films leading up to next year's Avengers movie (and my God, I hope it's awesome), and with the disappointing exception of Iron Man 2, I damn near love them.  Here, in breathless anticipation of the Avengers film, are the teaser scenes that appear after the end credits of the previous movies.

Iron Man:

The Incredible Hulk (I couldn't find the actual scene, but a piece of it was used in a TV commercial for the film)

Iron Man 2 (the worst of the films, but the best teaser scene):

Thor:

And finally, Captain America:

Avengers assemble!

The Incredible Hulk as Pitchman

Considering the Incredible Hulk is so, well, maladjusted, you'd think he wouldn't be the first choice for a commercial product endorser.  However, you would be wrong.  Although perhaps not in the same tier as Superman and Batman when it comes to commercial appearances, he's had his share of product plugging.

Here he is for an inflatable RC-controlled figure featuring his likeness.

And also for Kid Power sneakers.

The Hulkster seems especially favored in countries other than the US.  Here he is in a strange Spanish-language commercial for a cell phone company.  That is none other than the great Lou Ferrigno reprising the role that made him famous.  If anyone can tell me what country this aired in, please let me know in the comments section.

Here is a commercial for a Dutch-made candy.  Ironically, the punchline of this commercial has come true to life in the Hulk's original medium of comic books.  Comic geeks out there know what I mean.

Here's Lou again in a Canadian commercial for financial services company AGF.  Please forgive the long intro to this clip.

Finally, here's the Hulk in...oh sorry, wrong Hulk!

HULK SMASH!

HALKa: Indian Hulk Film Trailer

Holy crap I can't believe I didn't see this before! HALKa. An Indian version of Hulk. I don't know if this is meant to be taken seriously or if it's a spoof, but God look at this! Thanks to The Hulkington Post for the clip.

The Incredible Hulk, "Enter: She-Hulk"

As this month marks the 30th anniversary of the Marvel Comics character She-Hulk, Marvel has declared this week "She-Hulk Week." In honor of that, here is her first appearance outside of comic books, as a guest star on the early 80s animated series The Incredible Hulk. Here is the only episode of that series in which she appeared, "Enter: She-Hulk." Enjoy!

Mego Superhero Doll Commercials

You know what I would've liked to have found underneath my Christmas tree this past Christmas? Some cool, good condition superhero dolls by Mego. Mego was a toy company, no longer in existense, that made some awesome superhero dolls in the 70s. Every member of Generation X I know had at least one, if not several; I had Spider-Man and the Hulk. They are highly sought after collectors' items today. Here are some commercials from back in the day displaying their awesomeness.

For everything you could possibly want to know about Mego, go to the Mego Museum here.

Thanks!
