Halloween TV Commercials 2010 Edition

Today the blog gets into the Countdown full swing with our annual look at cool TV commercials with a Halloween or just plain spooky vibe.

First up: a commercial for Banquet frozen dinners. This lady has an unhealthy obsession with them!

Here is a spot for Goodwill promoting them as a great place for Halloween items, which is true. A location near me has a big window display of all their cool offerings. If you live near one, do yourself a favor and check them out.

I love Carvel ice cream cake commericals, and here's a great Halloween one!

You know what kind of man scores a chick on Halloween? Find out here.

They might do well to try here too.

Get great deals at the Mall of America and Target.

That's it for this year's batch. Stay tuned tomorrow as the Countdown is just beginning. Thanks!

Countdown to Halloween 2010 Opening Ceremonies

The blog is back!!  Hiatus is over, and I'm so thrilled to return I could SCREAM!  HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

To my regular readers, thank you for being so patient during my absence.  The break was necessary, but I'm rested and ready to go!  And for new readers to the blog, welcome!  Please feel free to peruse my archives and get acquainted with me.  I hope you stay around long after the countdown.

The countdown, of course, is the Countdown to Halloween!  This was a huge success for the blog last year, and I'm honored and proud to take part again.  I'll be posting Monday through Friday, taking a rest on the weekends, so please check in as often as you can.  Some blogs have specific themes to their countdown posts, but I just go freeform, posting anything related to Halloween, horror, or just plain spookiness.

Be sure to check out the many other great blogs sharing Halloween goodness as well.  It's an autumn cornucopia of blogitude!

Enough chitchat, it's time to get right to it.  Here, without further comment, are some warmup clips to get you into the spirit, what I like to call the Opening Ceremonies.  Let the 2010 Halloween season officially begin!

ABC TV Fall Preview 1980

Hey look, it's me! Yes, I'm almost back from my self-imposed exile, and while I believe the break was necessary and worthwhile, I've really missed writing and can't wait to be back full time. Of course, I (and you) won't have to wait long. For next Friday, October 1st begins---the Countdown to Halloween!  Hard to believe, but the start is just one week from today!  I have some great stuff waiting in the wings, and I've refurbished my archived Halloween posts for your perusal--you can check those out now.  So I wanted to come back and remind you that I'm still here and will be here in full force in just one week's time.

To tide you over until then, I do have a cool thing for you today.  As you probably know, this week was the start of the new TV season, so in honor of that, I have a fall TV preview--for ABC for the year 1980.  Hey, you didn't think I'd preview new TV, did you?  Enjoy!  And be back next Friday for the blog's grand re-opening!

Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon 2010

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer and good luck to kids and adults alike going back to school in the coming weeks (and those, like my two kids, who are already back at school this week).

I'm still on hiatus, so don't get too excited to see me. I just want to briefly mention that, as happens every Labor Day weekend, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will be holding its annual Telethon beginning Sunday night into Monday afternoon (check your local listings for exact start and end times). This is an event my wife and I support every year, and I urge you to give your support as well.

Here are clips that demonstrate why MDA is so important.

You don't have to wait for the Telethon to donate. You can visit http://www.mda.org/ to make a donation or learn more about the organization and muscular dystrophy.

Have a great weekend and a great autumn!

Blog On Hiatus Until October

I'm afraid so.  I've considered this off and on throughout the summer (a slower than usual time at the blog anyway), but I think it's necessary right now for several reasons.  One, I have to admit I'm struggling a bit for cool topics right now, the ever-famous writers' block.  Two, my home desktop PC has been on the fritz for a couple of months now and has made it harder to dedicate the time I'd like to the blog.  Finally, I have personal matters to attend to, such as my children and teacher wife preparing for school the next few weeks, and most importantly, a family tragedy we learned of this past weekend.  In the face of things that really matter, the blog can wait.

But one thing I want to make perfectly clear:  the blog is not finished.  Not by a long shot.  Many bloggers in the past say they're taking a brief break and then never return, but that won't happen here.  In fact, I will be performing maintenance on the blog throughout September, checking for dead links and videos that no longer exist (if you find any, please leave a comment or email me).  I will also be stockpiling new material to avoid future dry spells.

God willing, I will return to posting new material on October 1st, the start of---wait for it--the Countdown to Halloween!  Last year's event was a huge success for the blog, and I can't wait for this year.  As I've said before, October through December is my favorite time of year to blog, and this year will be no exception.

I will continue to post items on both Twitter and Facebook, that won't change, so if you need your daily dose of me, those will be the places to find me during this break.

Thank you to everyone who reads and supports this blog.  This may not be the most visited blog on the 'Net, but I truly appreciate every single reader.  You folks are the best!  Please bear with me, and stay tuned!  You never know, I may change my mind and come back early.  Thanks!

HALKa: Indian Hulk Film Trailer

Holy crap I can't believe I didn't see this before! HALKa. An Indian version of Hulk. I don't know if this is meant to be taken seriously or if it's a spoof, but God look at this! Thanks to The Hulkington Post for the clip.

Marvel! At The Disco

If there are two things that I can honestly say I love (aside from my wonderful family and friends, of course), it's Marvel comics and disco music.  Today I present two great tastes that go great together!  Here are two disco tracks related to my favorite Marvel properties, Spider-Man and the Hulk.

First up: an extended version of the Spider-Man theme song used on the 70s PBS series The Electric Company, during the show's Spidey Super Stories segments.

Next, a disco version of the famous "Lonely Man" theme from the Incredible Hulk TV series.  Once you hear it, you won't get it out of your head, and that's a good thing!  Thanks go out to Kristen Rybandt of the Enough Hats for Everyone blog for bringing this groovy track to my attention.

Stay classy, Internet!
