A Rock 'N' Roll Christmas, 1988 TV Special

 

Welcome to the first "real" article for my 2022 Countdown to Christmas! And today we have a rockin' good way to kick off the holidays. Today I present the 1988 TV special A Rock 'N' Roll Christmas!

This special aired during the holiday season of 1988 on the Fox network, and features clips of famous rock artists performing holiday hits, including John Mellencamp, Pat Benatar, Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Little Richard, Eddie Money, Elton John, David Bowie, Marvin Gaye, and more. It's a who's who of mainstream rock artists up to that point! Dennis Miller, who was a big star on Saturday Night Live at the time, is the host.

Welcome to the 2022 Countdown to Christmas!

 

Ho ho ho! Welcome one and all to the Countdown to Christmas at Me and You and a Blog Named Boo!

I hope everyone had a happy and stuffed Thanksgiving. With Turkey Day behind us, we can dive head first into the Christmas pool. Just as with the Countdown to Halloween, I hope to have plenty of holiday happenings for you to enjoy all season long.

This Countdown is not a multiblog event as for Halloween; this is just me doing my Christmas blogging thing. Of course, if anyone knows of a similar multiblog event for Christmas, by all means let me know and I'd be happy to contribute!

Today is just an introductory post to alert the masses; I'll start blogging more hearty stuff later this week. For today, please enjoy these short samplings of Christmas goodness.

Tom Turk and Daffy Featuring Porky Pig

 

Here is my second and final of this year's Thanksgiving features, the Looney Tunes cartoon "Tom Turk and Daffy," costarring Porky Pig!

Tom Turk is a turkey on the run from the barrel of pilgrim Porky's musket, and Daffy does his best to protect his fellow fowl from the hunt--that is, until Daffy gives into temptation to join Porky in the feast! Of course, after selling out his former friend, Daffy gets his comeuppance.

This cartoon is a lot of fun, and I thought for sure I had blogged it years ago, but I checked and couldn't find it anywhere, so here it is in 2022. Enjoy!

The Incredible Hulk, "Homecoming," Thanksgiving Episode

 

Hello again! With Thanksgiving week upon us, I thought it appropriate to post a couple of holiday items before the big day. Here is one of two of them: a Thanksgiving episode of--The Incredible Hulk?

You betcha! In this episode, entitled "Homecoming," David Banner returns to his childhood home to reunite with his estranged family: his sister, also a scientist like David, and his father, a farmer. Previously hurt feelings arise among them, but they must work together against a greedy land developer who wants to take away the family's farmland. Throw the Hulk into the mix, and you have a recipe for action!

Enjoy! A word of warning though: this Dailymotion upload plays in a reverse image of the actual episode, which doesn't matter much for the action, but any and all onscreen text will appear backwards. Please don't let it ruin your enjoyment of the episode.

Saturday Night Live Cast Auditions

 

Welcome back! I hope you all had a great Halloween season; I certainly did! With that and the Countdown behind us, let's move on to other fun stuff.

This summer I read a fascinating book called Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live. The book is an oral history of the legendary TV series told by the many people who have been a part of it both on and off camera. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of classic TV and comedy.

Reading the book inspired me to do a bit of a dive into classic SNL online, and I found this great collection of onscreen auditions from some of the most popular cast members of the show. It's over a half hour long, so you're sure to see at least a couple of your favorite performers.
